Customer Success Story

Bagmondo

Goldkrone, with 700 specialty stores, 350 specialty retailers, and €110 million in centralized billing volume, is the largest retail cooperative for leather goods in Europe.

For its members, a central online marketplace along with additional individual online shops for all retailers was to be created under the name bagmondo.de.

With Platoyo, from project start to platform launch in just 8 weeks!

"Members of our retail cooperative should be able to present their offers, services, and goods on a modern and easy-to-use platform and sell them online. The local presence and display of the point of sale are central to bagmondo.de." Ralf Herzog, Manager eCommerce / Multichannel GOLDKRONE

Initial situation

In the initial meeting between Platoyo and GOLDKRONE about the bagmondo.de project, the prerequisites and key points of the project were discussed:

  • Negative prior experiences with IT service providers were openly discussed and resolved.
  • Developing their own system was not an option due to a lack of know-how and resources. The retail cooperative had a fixed budget and needed a solution without technical risks, with clear and fixed milestones. The full range of functions had to be available from the start.
  • The joint analysis made it clear: the Software-as-a-Service model from Platoyo is the ideal solution for GOLDKRONE's requirements.
  • The major challenge: On one hand, the joint online marketplace was fundamentally welcomed by the members of the retail cooperative, but on the other hand, the retailers showed only limited willingness to actively participate in the marketing of the overall platform due to competition among themselves.

The solution

The solution to this conflict of interest was to provide additional individual online shops, which are also automated by the platform. With the so-called Automated Online Shops, each member receives a fully automated online shop with its own domain, individual logo, and CI (Corporate Identity). This set up the project for a real customer success story.

Tasks

The following three main tasks were detailed after the initial analysis with GOLDKRONE:

1. bagmondo.de will be an open online marketplace for all participants in the leather goods industry.

2. All product data will be centrally organized. Each participant will have their products digitized. For onboarding, Platoyo guarantees maximum flexibility with the "We take what you got" principle. Brand suppliers can submit their master data in any format (e.g., XML, CSV, JSON, TXT) and through any channel (e.g., FTP, SFTP, API, HTTP, Dropbox, Email). The Platoyo DataFactory standardizes these data structures. From a heterogeneous data supply, a usable homogeneous data flow is created.

3. Omnichannel is the focus. Each participant receives a basic profile on the platform upon onboarding. This profile includes numerous features that make the shopping experience between the seller and the end customers, both online and offline, modern and simple. Optionally, each participant can have a fully functional online shop with their own domain, automated SSL management, their own Google Analytics evaluation, and much more.

Implementation

The schedule was strict. The new platform was to be officially introduced at the BAG&ORDER trade fair within eight weeks.

  • Within just a few days after the project started, the retailers were able to independently register on the platform, fill out their profiles, and upload profile pictures. The support teams from Platoyo and GOLDKRONE provided uncomplicated and quick assistance.
  • The retailers' inventory management systems were connected to the platform, and brands were requested to provide their product data. bagmondo.de now receives product data from nearly 100 different brands, including Affenzahn, Deuter, Gerry Weber, Kapten Son, Liebeskind, Marco O' Polo, and many more.

  • Concurrently, GOLDKRONE established an expert council to incorporate the specific wishes and needs of the retailers directly into the development of the platform. The council met once a week during the implementation phase (and after the platform launch, once a month).

  • For internal processes (e.g., legal support, platform-wide terms and conditions, and privacy policies, handling of accounting) - Platoyo was also commissioned. For this purpose, the Platoyo team manages the external operations of the platform and sends a credit note to GOLDKRONE at the end of each month (representing the revenues generated by the platform).
  • Punctually for the start of the trade fair, the bagmondo.de platform was launched. The feedback from the sellers and suppliers was very positive!
